CSA Fresh From the Farm

Join our Community Supported Agriculture Program. All fruits and vegetables are certified South Carolina Grown.

Fresh from the field, delivered to your neighborhood, during spring, summer and fall growing seasons.

Your Options

We offer three options for our members to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables. We typically include 5-7 different items in the small, medium, and large share. Boxes are packed fresh at the farm and delivered weekly to a neighborhood near you.

1. Small Share - ¼ bushel box of fruit and vegetables, suggested for 1-2 adults. $15.

2. Medium Share - ½ bushel box of fruit and vegetables, suggested for 2 adults and 2 children. $22.

3. Large Share - 1 bushel box of fruit and vegetables, suggested for families 6+, or shared with other households. $30.

Prices are based on 20 weeks of deliveries. For less than 20 weeks, prices are pro-rated. Every effort will be made to provide members with a variety of produce each week; however, due to the unpredictability of farming, we cannot guarantee every item listed in the calendar will be available each week.

Earth-Friendly and Safe Food

All of our fruits and vegetables are grown on our fifth-generation family farm and co-op farms. Certified South Carolina Grown means earth-friendly and safe methods are used.

Although we do supplement the boxes with items we don’t grow, we get them from excellent neighboring farms whose owners we know personally. These farms also use sustainable growing practices.

Benefits

In our CSA program, members have the opportunity to purchase a “share” of the harvest before the growing season begins. This creates rewards for both members and the grower.

• Be healthy! Treat your family to fresh produce every week, grown and picked just down the road. There’s nothing as good as eating “in season.”

• Connect with the farmer who grows your food. Participate in “Real Farm, Real Fun!” work/play days offered at the farm during our growing season.

• Support a clean environment and conscientious business practices.

• Your prepaid membership helps with start-up costs and allows Thompson Farm and Nursery to provide you with fresh garden items for five months of the year, without worrying where your food comes from or how fresh it is.

• We’ll send you an e-letter each week, before you receive your box. It includes a note from “Farmer Scott” with an update, recipes and more to help you make plans for your upcoming share.

Theology

Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal fruits and vegetables directly from a farmer.

Community Supported Agriculture is an international movement that is providing people with an alternative to the global food system. More than 2,000 CSAs have formed in the United States since 1985. The movement arose as a response to the worldwide damage to farms, farm communities, and the environment from large-scale conventional agriculture.

In a region that is “developing” as rapidly as ours, making small farms viable is one way to assure there will be agricultural land, green space, and locally grown food for many years to come.

The CSA program seeks to restore direct contact between farmers and consumers, putting a human face on agriculture and the food supply. Thompson Farm & Nursery is a fifth generation family owned and operated farm located in Horry County, S.C.

Your membership in our CSA gives us the ability to offer our delicious, nutritious, local produce to our area. Community Supported Agriculture is a direct connection between local farmers and consumers who care.
